CAST RECORDINGS OF 2024: A PERSONAL LOOK

For me, 2024 wasn’t a good year for new musicals. There were plenty of new scores, but with few exceptions they failed to conquer me. Many were too modern for my traditional Broadway taste, while others sound too much alike.

So here are my choices among the 77 (more or less) new Musical recordings released in 2024 that I listened to. In order to get an idea of my Musical tastes, take a look at my 20 FAVORITE SCORES of all time.

First, the “Jorge’s Place Awards”; then my “Top Twelve” new recordings of 2024, in alphabetical order and not including reissues.

If you like this, take a look at my choices of 20232022202120202019, 2018, 201720162015, 20142013 and 2012.

  2. Great list, as always! And I agree that "Anuncia" should be on CD. But I do have a question: why is "Death Takes a Holiday" on this year's list? It's been available for a while?

  3. Last year, I decided to give one of my "awards" to a score that I only discover one or more years after it's release (last year was THE VIOLET HOUR) or to a score that didn't conquer me when it was release but, somehow, I began to enjoy. So this year I chose DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY.

    1. Got it! It is a beautiful score with a perfect cast. I think Maury Yeston is definitely under-rated, and his shows doesn't get the love they should.

    2. I confess I prefer Yeston's PHANTOM to the most famous one by Webber.
