The American Repertory Theatre production of PORGY AND BESS is schedule to open on Broadway later this year. With a revised book by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks and Pulitzer Prize nominee Diedre Murray, they say this production will be closer to a musical than to opera, with spoken dialoges and a jazzy approach to the score.
The titles roles will be played by Norm Lewis and Audra McDonald, with David Alan Grier as Sportin' Life. I'm not a psychic, but I think this production will do great at the next Tonys. Let's wait and see.
